Baker Yates graduated from the University of Memphis with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism in 1989. He then attended the Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law in Memphis, where he earned his Juris Doctorate in 2011. He practiced personal injury and legal malpractice law in Memphis from 2012 until 2025, when he joined Hickman, Goza & Spragins in December 2025.
